The House
Two listed buildings.
Twelve worlds of colour.
The CHASE Apartments are spread across two listed 18th-century buildings on the same street corner in Würzburg's old town: Bockgasse 3, home to the CHASE Bar and Steakhouse, and the former canons' residence (Domherrenhof) at Ursulinergasse 2, home to the Backöfele. Two buildings, one address
Two buildings on one street corner.
The two buildings stand on the corner of Bockgasse and Ursulinergasse, a few steps south of the town hall (Rathaus). Both are entered as listed monuments in the Bavarian list of monuments. Four apartments are in the CHASE House, eight in the Backöfele House.
Bockgasse 3
The CHASE House
A three-storey historic building with a red rendered façade and light window surrounds. The “eared” surrounds are typical of their time: at the upper corners, the window frames project outwards like little ears. On the ground floor are the CHASE Bar and the CHASE Steakhouse, linked by an open passageway.
Hospitality has a long tradition here: around 1881, the Adlerbräu inn served its guests in the building, and after the war it was called “Gaststätte Adler”. The CHASE Steakhouse has been open next to the bar since 2008.
“Three-storey building with a gabled roof and a staggered façade line, rendered masonry with eared window surrounds, 18th century.”

Ursulinergasse 2
The Backöfele House
In 1360, the “Zum Alten Hof” estate passed to a Würzburg cathedral provost and remained in the possession of the cathedral chapter for centuries. The core of today's building dates from the 18th century; after the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1951. The large gateway leads into the courtyard of the Backöfele, which Gerd Ehehalt opened on 13 May 1977 in the former premises of a coffin maker's workshop. It takes its name from an old tiled stove, the “Backöfele”, which still stands in the dining room today. A glass roof that can be opened makes the courtyard usable all year round.
“Residential building, former canon's residence, two-storey building with a gabled roof and its eaves facing the street, rendered façade with gateway, core 18th century, rebuilt 1951.”

History
What the two buildings have seen.
From medieval estate to bakery to apartment house: a journey through time in eleven stages.
- 1360
The “Zum Alten Hof” estate in what is now Ursulinergasse is sold to the Würzburg cathedral provost. Later, the cathedral chapter's Pfortenamt (gate office) is based here.
- 1465
The “Füchslein von der Hölle” estate, to which today's Bockgasse 3 belonged, is mentioned in a charter of St Stephan's monastery.
- 18th c.
Today's buildings are constructed. Under Prince-Bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim (1755 to 1779), the canons' residence (Domherrenhof) is rebuilt, and the three-storey house in Bockgasse also dates from this period.
- c. 1881
At Bockgasse 3, the Adlerbräu inn serves its guests. After the war, it is called “Gaststätte Adler”.
- 1894
Noe Fechenbach acquires Ursulinergasse 2 and opens a bakery; later, the building houses a coffin maker's workshop for many years. Stolpersteine (memorial stones) in front of the door commemorate people from the building who were persecuted during the Nazi era, including members of the Fechenbach family.
- 1951
Ursulinergasse 2 is rebuilt after the war. According to the list of monuments, the core of the building still dates from the 18th century.
- 1970
“Café Bundschuh” opens, one of Würzburg's first student pubs.
- 1977
On Friday 13 May, Gerd Ehehalt opens the Backöfele. According to family lore, his family's innkeeping tradition goes back to 1580, to the original family inn in Leinach near Würzburg.
- 2008
The CHASE Steakhouse opens next to the CHASE Bar at Bockgasse 3.
- 2019
The first four apartments open: Blue Rosy, Golden Grey, Botanical Green and Orange Mint.
- from 2020
Almond Blossom, Autumn Flowers, Black Butterfly and Golden Olive are added, followed by Norwegian Wood, Rijksmuseum and White Magnolia in 2021, and later Silver Palm.
